My webhosts have informed me, that due to the size, and I assume, sheer popularity of the site (!), that they will be migrating my hosting from one server to another tomorrow!
If you notice anything funky happening with the site around that time, bear with it / me. Last time, I had to reinstall wordpress, left the install directory in place, and got the site hijacked within about five minutes. Oops. That won’t happen this time. Saying that, There were a few problems last time there was a server move, as the database backup/restore didn’t *quite* go to plan. That was a few years ago, so hopefully nothing untoward will happen during this transition. I’ll post another message once it’s all done and I’ve verified it’s working.
Not that anyone’s bothered. This is more of a post for my own benefit, to remember to start backing evenrything up, y’know. Just in case. And who doesn’t like a good backup?
Well, the webhosts have informed me that the server move didn’t go as planned today, and instead will take place tomorrow. A little bit of an annoyance, as it means I’ll have to back the databases up again now. I mean, god forbid I can lose an entire days’ worth of useless statistics that I’ll never bother doing anything with anyway!
I blame Brexit.
Well, that was a bit of a rollercoaster, but thanks to my own ingenuity, I’ve got my site back online. As predicted, the migration to a new server did indeed fall over for about 36 hours, partially to my own stupidity, and partially to my webhosts changing a configuration on the server that messed up my backups. Thankfully, the issues I’ve had have now been resolved in a timely fashion, and I’m back up and running again, which means I’ll completely ignore this site again for another 6 months… only joking.
This might mean I’ll be able to put Piwigo back on here, meaning I’ll be able to get a gallery back up and running – it was by far the most popular part of the site.
OH NOES. Looks like there are still issues. None of the dynamic links work. For fudge’s sake. I fixed it, seconds after I posted that. whoops.
I’ve been informed by my lovely webhosts that the site is going to be moved to a new host some time in the next week or so, which may mean a small bit of downtime. Of course, it doesn’t really matter, as nobody actually reads this anymore, but last time there was a server move, everything fell to bits, and it took me ages to get back up and running.
Hopefully, this won’t be the case, but if the site suddenly stops working, I’ve not bailed, I’ll just fix it “when I can be bothered”…
