So, I bought me a record deck….
Finally, I’ve invested in replacing my aging hi-fi. The only reason I kept it was so I could play my lovely records. But, seeing as it’s after Xmas and I’m in an impulse-buying mood, I decided the time had come to finally upgrade something. And seeing as I’d just acquired a box of 150 records from ebay, I upgraded that.
The model is a Numark TTUSB, and I haven’t had the chance to test it, as it hasn’t arrived yet. My CC has been debited though, so they say it’ll be with me tomorrow. I have a feeling there’ll be more chance of seeing the pope tomorrow. Not that I’m particularly bothered anyway, seeing as I’m at work until 8.
I love records. I love the way they look. I love the way they sound. I get more pleasure searching through a box of old records than I do searching through a box of CD’s They’re so plain, so lifeless, and don’t look half as good on a shelf.
One thing which is good, is that apparently, the cartridges are “interchangeable”. The one on my current turntable isn’t. That’s one of the reasons I want to change it. I’ve tried many times to actually remove it completely, but I simply can’t get it to come off. The bottom part (the actual needle/stylus, whatever) does actually come off, and I managed to change this, but it didn’t really change the sound quality. Considering I found the needle in someone’s drawer at work, that’s hardly surprising.
Needless to say, I will update the site (and flickr, naturally) with a full review of it if and when it arrives!

Eh, you sound a bit like a fuddy duddy there, with your “in the good old days” nostalgia. I like the sound of records too. It takes me back to my childhood, when only the rich kids had CD players.
As theoretically better as CDs might be, there’s just something so quaint about the snapping and blank frequencies of records.
Have fun with your new toy when it arrives.
