Is it THAT time of the year already?

This blog has been following the ups and downs of my life since November 4th 2000. Amazingly, it's still going.

Coatesy’s passed his driving test!

Yes, exactly as the title says. Coatesy passed his driving test this morning. Congrats to him. this meant that there was a slight change of plan with our evening activities as mentioned earlier, and commented on by a certain Mr. Bananas. We went out for a spin in his (borrowed) car, and we ended up at Wynyard Services….

Coatesy and Car

Amusingly, there was a pub at a service station. We went in, and apparently, he’d been there before, as he knew some of the games on the gaming machine.

Now, considering this was a service station, the beer was reasonably priced, at £2.10 for a pint of Carling. I’ve paid more in normal pubs, so that was acceptable.

However, Coatesy admitted that he no longer reads this blog, so that was a disappointment. Booooooo. Despite the fact that he passed his test today, he was still a perfectly confident driver, which was a relief. I expected to be head-first in a ditch or a crash barrier by now.

Speaking of crashes, the BBC finally released the tapes of Richard Hammond’s crash, now that Top Gear’s back on the air. I think I commented on that on the last posting. Either way, it looked really nasty, and it’s good to see him alive and well. They’ve promised to never mention it on the show, yet there’s still 5 weeks of the series to go. I wonder how long it’ll take them to mention it again.

Anyway, today, other than the trip out with Coatesy, I’ve spent the whole day tidying. It was about time the front room got cleaned properly, including the sofa. We’ve got rid of the lion-motif rug that emblasened the centre of the floor. It’ll be rolled up and delivered to Lynne tomorrow, as me and Daddykins both decided that the room looked better without it there.

I also fixed the hoover. Well, when I say fixed, I actually mean “cleaned the filters” It was an unpleasant task, and one that was reminiscent of fitting the new stair carpet, for the amount of dust floating around. In fact, that’s probably where the majority of the filter-clogging dust came from.

Daddykins had to pick up a microphone for his beloved ham radios from South Bank, so naturally, it was a chance for me to take irrelevant pictures. Some of them didn’t turn out too bad

Ahem.

Right, I’m weak, I admit that. But, I saw my camera lying there, on my bed, its silvery casing reflecting the weak winters’ sunlight into my good eye. I tried to hold back I tried to resist temptation. I picked up two AA batteries. My palms were sweaty, my fingers trembling, as I fumbled to get them inside the camera’s appropriate compartment.

I slowly removed the memory card out of the reader, standing quietly on my desk. Its inky blueness echoing the feelings of my soul, its golden contacts staring at me with satanic menace.

A bead of sweat formed upon my brow as I slid the card into the slot. The card clicked into place, the evil contacts were now nowhere to be seen, hidden within the camera’s deep underbelly..

I gulped. My throat had become dry with terror and anticipation. I knew there was no going back. The battery compartment closed with an unnerving creak The sooner I got this over with, the sooner humanity would be a stronger race for the images I was about to provide. I bit my bottom lip and held down the power button. “ACER CORPORTAION” fluttered across the camera screen. My chest became tight, breathing became difficult. I now knew that it would simply be a matter of seconds, and it would all be over. I aimed the camera out of the window, with my index finger poised, quivering over the shutter button. The pain in my chest was too much to bear. I pressed it in, only halfway. My eyes, transfixed on the LCD screen built in the camera, watched in awe, as the picture instantly became sharper and clearer. My heart rate slowly rose to the level similar to an aroused cat.

It was clear to me that, with another slight press with my finger, my life, and the lives of those around me would be changed forever. The feeling was overwhelming Tears ran down my cheek, as I forced my finger to make the final move. It felt like I was pressing pure iron through the earths’ core.

Then, all of a sudden… “CLICK”. The camera shutter made the noise which could only signify a history changing moment. The camera screen went black. It was all over. My breathing returned to normal, my heart rate lowered to an acceptable level for a cat, and I was aware that a moment in history had been captured for the entire world to see…

Now, I hope you realise just exactly what I go through every time I post a picture onto this fucking blog.

The big crane’s gained a bigger brother

You may remember that in this posting that I almost creamed myself at the realisation that the building site over the back of our house erected a crane. Well, as of yesterday, there’s actually two there now. I shall greet the new arrival with a simple “meh”. In fact, I can’t be arsed to even get the camera out and take pictures of it. Yet. I’m sure that’ll change as the week goes on. It’s been a bit slow on my flickr account recently, so I might take some “arty” shots.

The lunchtime post!

Ah yes, it is indeed lunchbreak. So I thought I’d do a quick update, seeing as there’s nobody else to talk to.

Since my last posting, I have slept like a log for most of the time, so there’s not been much update. I got more Lovefilm DVD’s today. Office Space, and The Day Today, which you may recall was a humorous Chris Morris news-style show which launched the career of Alan Partridge. Of course, Office space is one of my favourite films, though I’ve yet to actually own it on DVD. Which is quite surprising considering how much I spend on them.

There was also a flyer in for Hot Fuzz, the police-based film starring most of the Shaun Of the Dead team. Me and JT have arranged to see it when it comes out, probably on 15th Feb.

The only thing I’ve managed to do today is go to Asda. They had specials on Fosters. Wheee! I bought 2×10 500ml packs for £12. Actually, that works out exactly the same as it would if I got them from Mal’s, but without the convenience of having to walk down the offy in the rain and hail, just like I did the other night. I bought some of their nice sausage rolls, which only lasted me half of the night. Bah. The woman behind the checkout commented on how much she loved them. I have a feeling she may have been on a diet….

I also bought yet another Chicken Madras. Can you believe they’ve changed them? Yes, despite my rant a few months ago after they discontinued the Vindaloo variety, they’ve gone and made the portions bigger, and therefore more expensive. In this current time of healthy eating, why have they gone and made them BIGGER? What the hell? Are curries suddenly healthy enough to allow them to enlarge them? If they are, I’ll live until 167. It does mean that they’ve become harder to cook in the works microwave. The rice always dries out, no matter how much water you actually put in, and no matter how vigorously you stir it in between.

It’s 7 minutes until I sign back on…. now 6. Just enough time for a drink of water, possibly enough time to pouch away the last mini sausage roll, and definitely enough time for a great big long sigh….

Awwww. No more snow

Well, that’s it for now. All the snow’s gone. In fact it all went just a few minutes after I took those pictures. Bah. I want a proper downfall! Still, it gave the tabloids enough excuse to use their age old headline “It’s Snow Joke”. Maybe they should come up with some replacement headlines, such as “I can’t believe it’s not rain!”, and “Quick! Take some photos, the country doesn’t look like a shithole for a day!”.

Well, the past week has been a bit slow for me on the blogging front. I’ve added some more CD’s to the gallery, I’ve upgraded Wordpress (as mentioned before), and Wayne celebrated his 27th birthday on the 24th. Well, I say celebrated, I don’t know whether he did or he didn’t.

Oh, an update on the Music Zone thing. I went in there yesterday. They’re also doing the 80% sale thing, and the receipt still has the whole “In Administration” bollocks printed on the top, though there’s no signs up to say they’re closing just yet.
picked up more desperately cheap CD’s… I managed to get “Red Book” by Texas for £1.97. Hurrah.

I’ll keep you informed on it, especially as I intend to visit the town more than once every month or so.

Onto food news, as I try to cram as much blogging as I can into the remainder of my lunch hour… I’ve found another lovely curry, namely Patak’s Chicken Bhuna. I saw them in Heron’s yesterday, and without hesitation, I picked up one. I did hesitate about getting a second one, just in case I didn’t like them. It was a bit foolish, as I did like them a lot. But, at 99p per serving, I suppose you have to be a little bit careful on these things.

One thing that did happen this week, I seem to be becoming more introvert by the second. I didn’t go out Tuesday night, and Wednesday night was the first staff night out for months, which I also failed to attend. However, Coatesy should be coming over on Monday night, so that should be a good laugh. I’ve not seen him properly since the beginning of August.
